Iaquinta landed a good right early in the round, but the left hands of Masvidal were landing with more frequency. In the third round, the toll the kicks of Iaquinta were beginning to show in the deep purple bruising of the left leg of Masvidal. The leg-kick attack of Iaquinta appeared to bother Masvidal a bit late in the round. Iaquinta did manage to land a good right hand and start to add variety to his attack while dealing with the body kicks and jabs of Masvidal. Still, the solid technical boxing stylings of Masvidal appeared to be controlling the bout. Iaquinta looked to be on steady legs as the second round began, coming forward and trying to take the fight back to Masvidal with leg kicks. Followup shots from Masvidal left Iaquinta with a nasty cut under his right eye. They then went back to the feet, and Masvidal hurt Iaquinta badly with a flurry of punches, dropping him to the canvas. Iaquinta attempted to use a leg lock to avoid the danger, but he was laughed at by Masvidal. Masvidal flurried with a hard series of punches late in the round. Masvidal picked his spots early on, using the jab to maintain the distance, where he wanted to keep the fight. Iaquinta (12-3-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) was active to start the fight, but Masvidal (28-9 MMA, 5-2 UFC) kept his defensive game tight to avoid eating clean shots. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on the same channel. The lightweight bout co-headlined today’s UFC Fight Night 63 event at Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. – Al Iaquinta managed to win a narrow split decision over Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night 63, but he probably didn’t make any new fans as he stormed out of the cage to a chorus of boos. ![]()
